FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS |
How old should a student be to begin lessons?
A piano student should be able to sit and concentrate on a task for at least 15-30 minutes. Voice students will experience more success if they have basic music reading skills.
Do I need a piano?
YES! A toy is not an instrument that will lead to success. Although not ideal, if an acoustic piano is not available, the digital keyboard must have 88 keys, a damper pedal and the ability to play dynamics (weighted keys).
Do I need to practice?
YES! Without consistent practice a student will not experience success. The time will vary by the age of the student and difficulty level of the music but every student needs to consistently practice. Practice leads to mastery and daily practice is the most effective way of improving. A younger or beginning student should plan on a minimum of 15 minutes 5 times a week and an older or more advanced student should expect to practice 30 or more minutes daily.
How long do I have to take lessons?
You don't. Music lessons are a privilege and an opportunity. Students start studying at varying ages but many continue all the way through high school and beyond. If you are in a hurry to 'get good' you will have to practice and once you have experienced the joy of making music you will not want to stop!
How do the finances work?
In the Wiens Music Studio musicians make a monthly payment of $110 for weekly 30 minute lessons or $165 for weekly 45 minute lessons. By keeping the payments consistent, musicians and teacher can budget. Additional costs for music and events such as festivals and master lessons are taken out of a music account that each student pays into as needed. Students may opt to pay by the semester.
